RIVER SERVICE SAVED
NEW SHIPPING COMPANY ON WANGANUI (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, Monday. A new company has been formed to take over the Wanganui River service at present run by A. Hatrlck and Company. This service was to cease at the end of the year ; as negotiations with the Government for a satisfactory contract had failed. Much of the land in the upper reaches of the river is inaccessible by road and would have been cut off had the boats ceased running. Mr. R. S. Hatrick, a member of the firm which has run the steamers for many years, is to be the managing director. The new organisation has completed a contract with the Government for a term of live years and will carry on the service as in the past. This is a welcome move as the tourist traffis, for which Hatrick and Company catered extensively, is regarded as of the first importance to the city.
