A badly neglected large drain adjacent to the footpath on Wairoa Road is to have five chains piped with ISin pipes. The chairman of the Finance Committee, the Rev. W. C. Wood, reported that the board's finances are in a very healthy condition. He stated that last year the board had an overdraft of £962 10s 9d. At the present time the board had a credit balance of £lis 2s 2d. The outstanding rates amounted to £SOO. Last year, said Mr. Wood, only £267 in rates had been collected by September 30, and this year, at the end of September £2,755 had been collected. He described this as phenomenal, and he attributed the large increase to the introduction of the 5 per cent, rebate.
