HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated November 10, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow.—There was a quiet demand at auction and prices were a little easier. Present quotations for spot are, per cwt.: Mutton, tine, 45s 6d to 465; fair to good, 43s to 455; dark to dull, 40s 6d to 41s. Beef.—Sweet and/or mixed, 14s to 48s; fair to good, 42s -to 445; dark to dull, 39s to 40s; mixed, fair to good, 41s 6d to 43s 6d; dark to dull, 39s to 40s; gut, etc., 38s to 40s 6d. Hemp.—The manila market is dull and prices lower. “J" grade for NovemberJanuary shipment is quoted at £36 10s by sellers. The output from January 1 to October 31 was 1,141,000 bales, against 1.082.000 for the same period last year. Stocks in manila on October 31 were 147,000 bales, against 177,000 at the same time last year, and in Britain 16,894 bales, against 4,774. The sisal market is a little easier. No. 1 for FebruaryApril shipments sold at £3B 10s. Tow: Moderate bu % less has been done. Values are: No. 1, a. 27 to £27 10s; No. 2, £25 to £25 10s, according to quality and position. New Zealand continued in good demand, but little was offering. Business was reported in highpoints at £33 10s; fair, £3O 10s; common, £2S 15s, for November-December shipment. Wool.—More business is being done in tops, and prices are firmer all round.
