CHAMPIONSHIP BILLIARDS
N.Z. TOURNAMENT FINAL GAMES COMMENCE There was a large attendance at the Auckland Sports Club’s rooms on Saturday night when the first session of the final in the New Zealand amateur billiard championship was played. The match, which was contested between M. W. White and A. Bowie, who played in the previous games as A. Scott, was made interesting by clever play and fast scoring. White got going quickly and soon established a strong lead. He looked like getting to the sessional points with a big advantage, but Bowie, playing very consistently, gradually overhauled his opponent and ran to his points, 501 in play, to White’s 419. Off a lucky fluke Bowie made his best score of 67, his other runs being: 52, 50, 33, 33, 33, 21 and 28 unfinished. White made breaks of 64, 55, 51, 4 6and 22. Bowie averaged 9.6 and White 8.3. The game was a thoroughly enjoyable one, and the audience heartily applauded the players at the close of the session. The event will be brought to a conclusion this evening, play commencing at 8 o’clock.
