LORD MAYOR’S SHOW TABLEAUX OF OLDEN TIMES British Official Wireless RUGBY, Saturday. The Lord Mayor's Show, which yesterday marked the commencement of the year of office of Sir Kynaston Studd. took place in bright sunshine, and attracted immense crowds to the streets through which the procession passed. The route was gaily decorated, and some of the banners that were stretched across the road heralded the fact that Sir Kynaston was once a famous cricketer. Among the features of the show, which was one of the most notable of recent years, were medieval craftsmen at work on gold and silver, as in the (lays of Queen Elizabeth, and also tableaux illustrating the development of the printing industry from the 17th century, and illustrations of the development of industrial welfare work, contrasting the conditions of to-day with those of a century ago. included in the procession was one of the first machine-guns used in the British Army, a Nordenfeldt gun. It was accompanied by a detachment of the London Regiment.
