SIAOSFS W!N LED ALL THE WAY DESERT GLOW CONSISTENT (Special to THE SUN) WHANGAREI, To-day. The weather was fine prior to the first race to-day, but rain threatened subsequently, while a strong wind did not make things very pleasant. Fancy Boy £423, Lucklaine £319 and Sulla £289 were the best supported. The favourite was one of the last to leave the barrier. Envoy leading out from Sulla and Furore, with Fancy Boy running up into fourth place at the end of a furlong. This was the order crossing the top, the leading trio being on terms. Envoy and Sulla turned for home together, followed by Fancy Boy, Furore, Gazerin and Lucklaine. Half-way up the running Fancy Boy came through and went on to win nicely by a length and a-half from ! with Sulla a short length away third. Won by half a length, a length separating second and third. Time, 1.16 1-5. Winner trained by W. Gough, at Avondale. Air King, Bombarder and Viburnum declined their engagement, and of the ten left in Vallar was made a very warm order with £BS3, others to claim friends being Frothblower £349 and Owairaka £322. The favourite and Hone Heke began best from Exalted, Frothblower and Michael. At the end of a furlong Segment fell, and a little further on Abbey Queen lost her rider. Vallar led down the back from Exalted, Hone Heke, Froth blower and Michael, and the favourite was still doing it well in front at the home turn, where he was attended by Frothblower, Exalted, Michael and Hone Heke. The weight told on Vallar in the run home, and Frothblower soon got to him to win by half a length from Exalted, with Vallar a length away third. Then came Hone Heke, with Michael, Lord Abbey, Camp Prince and Owairaka. When Segment crashed he gave E. A. Keesing a nasty fall, a dislocated collarbone being the extent of his injuries, sufficient to keep him out of the saddle for a few weeks. As a result of his fall Segment sustained a. broken leg and had to be destroyed. POROTI HACK HURDLES Of £165; miles 1— RIPON ABBEY (R. Hannon), b g, by Quin Abbey—Bell Crispin, 6yrs, 11.4, R. E. Ripon Abbey opened up a big gap early, but he led passing the stands by a couple of lengths from Wenday, with Miss Alma, Just Quiety, Clockwork and Mangani bunched another two lengths back. In the stretch down the back the favourite was just clear of Wenday, with Just Quietly, Clockwork, Miss Alma and Mangani following, and this was the order in which they came round the home turn. Wenday (who fenced slovenly), with Just Quietly another two lengths away. Clockwork was fourth and Mangani (who gave an indifferent display) fifth, Miss Alma chasing them home. Siaosi led all the way. Going out of the straight there was little between the field, Siaosi making play from Desert Glow, Papatu, Te Monanui, Transformer and Thursby. There was no change in the order along the back, where the favourite held an advantage of two lengths. Siaosi turned for home clear of Desert Glow and Papatu, following them being Thursby, Transformer and Te Monanui. Once heads were turned for home Desert Glow challenged the favourite, but the nearest he could get was wfithin a length of Siaosi.
