STRAND

GREAT NAVAL STORY Down through the ages the famous saying of Nelson’s has lived, and in the British production, "The Battles of Coronel and Falkland Islands, ’ now showing at the Strand Theatre, is evident in the spirits of the gallant sailors who fought in the two famous battles. This epic photoplay reveals the story of a great naval battle of which the world in general has known so little, and is undoubtedly the greatest and most thrilling war film yet made. This is the first British war film made with official help from both sides. The producers were helped by the Admiralty and by the German Government, and consequently the film shows in full detail the authentic story of the two battles, firstly the disastrous English defeat when the Monmouth and Good Hope were defeated, and lastly the defeat of the Germans who were forced to encounter overwhelming odds. It is not an adventure story, but an epic of the days when Britain fought to retain the supremacy of the seas.

A bright and colourful prologue en- j titled “Leaving Port.” precedes the j screening of the photoplay. Madame j Valeska’s renowned Tiny Tot Ballet j presents several national dances. The ' Clarion Quartette, comprised of Miss j Alma McGruer, Miss Beryl Smith, Mr. ! J. Simpson and Mr. Duncan Black, sing : stirring British songs. A most enchanting and very interesting scenic film is “The Homes of j King George V.. the first pictorial 1 representation of the beautiful castles J and palaces of our Kings and Queens.
