MATAMATA AFFAIRS

Before leaving for Paeroa, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Dale were tendered a farewell at their residence by the Cricket Club. Appreciative remarks regarding Mr. Dale’s services to the % club were made by Father Silk. Messrs*. T. Hunt, "W. -JEJ. Ayres,- D. K. Porter and J. Landells, and in handing Mr. and Mrs. Dale a handsome travelling rug, Mr. W. Livingstone expressed his regret at losing such energetic workers. Opportunity was also taken to *ecognise the services to the club of Mrs. D. Fussey, who had unfailingly attended to the refreshments at matches during the past season. In presenting Mrs. Fussey with a silver teapot and hot water jug, Mr. Livingstone said that he hoped she would continue to assist during the coming season. A short dance, for which Miss Landells provided the music, and two vocal items by Misses Ayres and Fussey concluded the evening. * * * Notice of motion was given at this -week's meeting of the Matamata Town Board by - Mr. J. Buchanan (chairman) that a resolution authorising the extension of the water supply down Bank’s Road, which is outside the town area, be rescinded. Recently the board applied to the Minister of Agriculture asking that silver poplar be added to of . noxious weeds. In his reply the Minister stated that his departmental officers advised against the proposal, but he would communicate with the Department of Lands and Survey and request that all Crown lands (unoccupied) be kept clear of the growth. The board decided to. add another 1-ft of metal, Bin deep on each side of the town road, making both the surfaces 30ft wide.
