CLAIM FOR £5,000
SALVAGE OF DISTRESSED STEAMER VESSEL AND LIVES SAVED Press Association. WELLINGTON. To-day. In the Supreme Court to-day the Wanganui Harbour Board is claiming £5,000 from the Canterbury Steam Ship Company, in respect to the tug Kah;-.-nui going to the assistance of the steamer Gale in April, after the towline of the Terawhiti, a Wellington tug, had parted. The statement of claim is that the Gale, when in a dangerous situation off a lee shore,-signified acceptance of the Kahanui’s request if assistance was required. The tug’s crew got the towline aboard and towed the Gale to Wellington. It is claimed that the tug was instrumental in saving the Gale and the lives of those aboard, and that considerable risk had been incurred in t iking the tug to the Cabin her pr«-earious position.
