OPOTIKI HOLDS SHIELD (From Our Own Correspondent) OPOTIKI, Saturday. Beautiful weather favoured the annual tournament between the Tauranga, Te Puke, Whakatane and Opotiki High. Schools which took place at Opotiki to-day, resulting in Opotiki, the holders, retaining the shield. This was presented to the winners at a fancy dress ball held this evening. Last night the combined pupils gave a highly-successful concert.' The results are as follows: Boys.—Half-mile: Shalfoon (Opotiki) 1, Douglas (Tauranga) 2, Clark (Tauranga) 3. Girls: Fifty yards, J. Shaw (Opotiki) 1, M. Thompson (Opotiki) 2, N. Wilkins (Te Puke) 3. Boys’ high jump: Mulhern (Opotiki) 1, Armstrong (Opotiki) and Douglas (Tauranga) 2, equal height, 4ft 6in. Girls’ relay, quarter-mile (teams of four): Tauranga 1, Te Puke 2, Opotiki 3. Girls’ high jump: M. Thompson (Opotiki) 1, N. Tovey (Tauranga) and G. Stewart (Opotiki) 2, equal, height 4ft 4in. Boys’ 100 yards: Shalfoon (Opotiki) 1, Gavin (Tauranga) 2, Morgan (Opotiki) 3. Boys’ relay, quarter-mile: Opotiki 1, Tauranga 2, Whakatane 3 (won easily). Football: Whakatane 19, Te Puke 0; Tauranga 8, Whakatane 5; Opotiki 28, Te Puke 0 (this game was stopped at half-time). Final: Opotiki ami Tauranga draw.
