COAL FOR TE KUITI
SEAM BEING WORKED SUPPLIES OF GOOD QUALITY (From Our Otcn Correspondent.) TE KUITI, To-day. After • onsiderable delay a lease of the Rangitoto coal-bearing property has been obtained. Th© property is situated a few miles from Te Kuiti, and coal-mining operations have been commenced, and coal from it is now on sale in the town. The coal is of excellent quality and compares favourably with any in t#.e North Island. The presence of gum in the layers of coal indicates that at one time a kauri forest of considerable dimensions must have existed in the locality. Three months’ prospecting and driving have resulted in a large seam being located, and operations on an extensive scale are to be carried out. The benefit to the surrounding townships, in having a good fuel supply within easy access, should prove considerable. Messrs. Morgan and O’Reilly, of Te Kuiti, are conducting the ventur*, ~ - ~
