AUCKLAND MUSEUM
“COUNCIL WILL MEET CONTRIBUTORS”
FIRST YEAR’S ESTIMATES
Local bodies are continuing to discuss the proposal of contributing to the upkeep of the War Memorial Museum.
Devonport Borough Council considered the question in committee last evening, and it is understood that the council is favourably disposed, provided that the amount of contribution is strictly limited, and the representation is satisfactory. The proposed representation was three members appointed by the City Council, and three from the outside local bodies, in addition to the Mayor of Auckland in an ex-officio position, and the Auckland Museum and Institute members, the total board to number about 15. Mr. H. E. Vaile stated this morning that he did not think there would be any appreciable controversy over representation. The present board, in fostering the Bill to provide for future maintenance and management had always been prepared to make a definite and permanent limit to the annual contribution by local bodies, and was prepared to make the representation exactly as desired by the contributing bodies.
