TWICE ON FOOTPATH INTOXICATED DRIVER FINED Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Driving a motor-lorry on the footpath, while he was intoxicated, cost Harry Ernest Herbert £lO. Herbert, a motor-lorry driver, appeared before Mr. 11. P. Lawry> S.M., this morning, charged with being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor vehicle, and with driving without a licence. Defendant was fined £lO on the first charge, and on the second charge he was convicted and fined 10s. Sub-inspector Fitzpatrick said that last evening defendant had charge of a motor-lorry in Durham Street. He drove the machine on the footpath toward Lichfield Street. He turned about and tried to repeat the performance. This time the lorry ran into a gutter and became jammed. The police were informed and defendant was arrested and found to be in a state of intoxication.
