FIFTY DIPHTHERIA CASES IN CITY

Returns from the Health Hepartment for June show 82 cases of diphtheria through the province. The larger number of these, 51, are in the Central Auckland district, but this is not unusually high for this season of the year. Of the total of 253 cases or infectious diseases, 135 are from the city and suburbs. The numbers are as follows:—North Auckland, 34; Central Auckland, 135; South Auckland, 64; Coromandel-Opotiki, 20. The cases notified during the past month! were diphtheria, 82; scarlet fever, 61; tuberculosis, 35; influenza, 27; pneumonia, 22; enteric fever, 8; erysipelas, 7; eclampsia, 5; puerperal fever, 2; hydatids, 1; impetio contagiosa. 1; lethargic encephalitis, 1; ophthalmia neonatorum, 1.
