GIRL KILLED ON WAY TO CABARET
FATAL MOTOR SMASH (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, Sunday. Badly hurt as the result of a motor smash last evening, Miss Mary Ball died soon after admission to hospital. Three of the other members of the party of five, which was on the way to a cabaret, are still in hospital. They are;—Edward Wylie, abrasions and severed tendons of the forearm; Nelson Meuli, abrasions and gashes to the face; Miss Lee Swan, injuries to the ankle; Miss R. Jackson, deep cut on the leg. Mr. Leo Uday was not injured.
Shortly after 8.30 p.m., as the car was turning a corner while descending Virginia Road, Christies Hill, it apparently skidded and then plunged through a fence, which was flattened to the ground. After rolling over several times the car came to rest upside down against a tree, the body being smashed. Miss Ball, who was in the front seat, was caught by a rib of the hood, which inflicted terrible internal injuries.
