Ashburton Trots

TO-MORROW’S FIXTURE BIG FIELDS IN ALL EVENTS A popular fixture in the South is the Ashburton Trotting Club’s one-day autumn function, which will be held to-morrow. The fields are on the large side and class is fairly well represented. rpHE acceptances received for tomorrow must be somewhere in nature of a record for the club, and speculators will find some difficulty in making selections from such a host of competitors. The racing promises to be full of interest and everything points to a successful meeting. The principal event on the card is the DURBAR HANDICAP Of £400; 2 miles; 4.38 limit

Nine figure on the front of this event and there are a few useful ones engaged, including High Jinks, Chimer, Panto and Vesuvius, who have claims to distinction over a two-mile course. Just behind is Great Actress, who so far has failed over the long journey when in the present class. Genuine, however, has possibilities, but Jolly Pet, who recently won in good style

at 1-lutt Park, appears to hold those in front safe. Henry Logan may pprove a thorn in the side of the opposition. Nantwich won this heat last year, creating a big surprise, and Rey Logan is expected by his party to pull out a successful effort any day. Honour Bright is returning to form, and Jackie Audubon should add a heap of interest to the race. Dalmeny is well placed and if in the right mood would be on deck at the finish. Most support may be found for JOLLY PET, JACKIE AUDUBON and REY LOGAN. Next in order of importance will be the RAKAIA HANDICAP Of £225; 14 miles; 2.52 limit Hustler .... Lt Jackie La Sonette . . Lt. Audubon . . 24 i Rebel .... Lt. Auditress ... 24 Lulu Lad . . Lt. Dillon Gold . . 24 Yoicks .... Lt. Arran Chief . . 24 Ayr Lt. Jolly Pet ... 24 yds. bhd. Panto .... 24 Huon Denver . 12 Kulnine .... 30 Double Event. 12 Fashion Queen 36 Event 24 Dalmeny ... 36 Locanda Killinchy ... 36 General ... 24 Zenith 60 Of the “enders,” La Sonette and Yoicks will li,nd a lot of friends, but the latter may prefer to start in the mile saddle . which follows this heat. If ready, Denver Huon should make a bold bid for victory, and there is a nice team handily placed on 24 yards, which includes Jackie Audubon, Auditress, Dillon Gold,

Arran Chief, Jolly Pet and Panto: As Arran Chief is coming back to form he will be well supported and Kulnine is a speedy customer, and Zenith, the back-marker, can go a merry 10 furlongs. When the machine is adjusted ARRAN CHIEF, ZENITH and DILLON GOLD may be in most demand. Saddle Heats Two saddle events figure on the programme, the first being the Harvest Handicap, run over 10 furlongs with a 2.57 limit. Pretty Pointer and Young Author are a likely pair off the front, but Lady Brent is just behind them, end so is Direct Wave, who is an improving sort. Lady Minto is also a good mare with the weight on top. V'ikota is speedy and Warepo is overdue. DIRECT WAVE and LADY BRENT may be the order. The other saddle race is over a mile course, with a 2.19 limit. My Sonny appeals off the deep end. and Springtime may elect to go right. Yoicks will have a lot of admirers from a 2.18 peg, and Acco, if seasoned, will tak? a lot of settling. Ariki is nicely placed on 2.16, but the best fancied may be MY SONNY and YOICKS. .Improvers’ Items The Improvers’ Handicap of 12 furlongs (3.50 limit), and Autumn Handicap, run over two miles, with a 4.55 limit, are arranged to suit the improving class, and naturally both have drawn big fields. The shorter event will find Delightful, who ran third at Addington on Saturday to Free Advice and Writer, at a short price. Off the front he will keep the others busy. Rose Marie, Lady Bee, Danny’s Boy, lone and Golden Author should also be in the picture, but DELIGHTFUL and DANNY’S BOY will carry the money. In the longer heat Golden Author, Joan Dillon, off the end, will command respect, with Routine, Val Logan, Red Pepper, Mary Locanda and Actor perhaps the best of those further back. The public may go for RED PEPPER and GOLDEN AUTHOR. Trotters’ Tests The Allanton Handicap is set aside for the improving square-gaiters, the distance being one and a-half miles. Of the big limit contingent Leo Bellman will appeal most, but Manhattan j and First Wrack may prove equal to i the test set them. Further back Repute, Connie Audubon, Reta _£orena and Toheroa should hold bright prospects. LEO BELLMAN and TOHEROA may find most support.

For the two-mile event St. Petrox should do best of the limit lot, and Molly Molloy, Molly Audubon and Reta Corena are quite handy, just behind. New Metford is an improving sort and is nicely placed. Audalie, Commander Bingen and Oval will be in the picture, but the demand mav be for NEW METFORD and MOLLY MOLLOY.
