“PATIENCE AND WISDOM"
NEEDED IN WAIKATO DIOCESE DISCUSSION BY SYNOD (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Among the many important subjects : for discussion by General Synod, which i commenced its sessions in Wellington 1 to-day. will be the recent suspension 1 by Bishop Cherrington, Bishop of Waij kato, of the Rev. F. T. Harvie, Canon ! of the Cathedral, which has given rise : to much comment both in the Waikato diocese and in the other provinces, i Brief reference to the creation of the 1 diocese of Waikato, as a result of the i commission appointed for the purpose by Synod in 1925, was made by the Primate, Archbishop Averill, in his address at the opening of Synod this afternoon. The new diocese, he pointed out, came into being on April 1, 1926. “In welcoming Bishop Cherrington with the clerical and lay representatives of the new diocese,” he said, "I would remind them of the great privilege and equally great responsibility which rests upon them as pioneers in what to the present generation of churchmen in New Zealand is a new experiment. As an integral part of the Church in this province the representatives of the new diocese will need patience and wisdom —together with the help of the prayers of the faithful
