SUBURBAN TRAFFIC

POPULARITY OF CONCRETE The motor traffic on Great South Road over the week-end fully demonstrated the popularity of this thoroughfare with the motoring public. From early morning till late at night there were two continuous streams of traffic journeying North and South. The majority of the cars were laden with travelling requisites, while a number were just the day travellers. One noticeable feature of the heavy traffic was the number of cars delayed on the roadside, with the occupants busily engaged repairing punctures. Within a radius of four miles, between Takanini and Papatoetoe, no fewer than 11 cars, at one time, ware counted yesterday mid-day, resting by the wayside while the occupants were busily engaged in the heat of the day replacing punctured tyres. The extreme heat of the concrete is said to cause the patches - to become loose. One garage owner states that vulcanising is the only remedy for punctures during the summer season.
