DR. QUILLIAM DEAD
SURGEON AT AUCKLAND HOSPITAL Dr. Newton Quilliam, house surgeon at the Auckland Hospital, died yesterday after a severe illness of nearly seven weeks. The youngest son of Mr. J. H. Quilliam, of New Plymouth, Dr. Quilliam was educated at Nelson College and the New Plymouth Boys’ High School. Later he went to the Otago University, but his studies were interrupted by war service with the medical corps. He had been at the Auckland Hospital about a year, and his death, due to pneumonia, has terminated a promising career.
Two brothers. Mr. R. P. Quilliam and Mr. C. W. Quilliam, were killed at the war, and the only surviving brother is Mr. R. H. Quilliam, of New Plymouth, who was also at the war. The only sister is Mrs. L. M. Horrocks, of Remuera. At yesterday’s annual meeting of the Auckland division of the British Medical Association, a vote of sympathy with Dr. Quilliam’s relatives was passed. The funeral will take place at New Plymouth to-morrow.
