GRAND
NEW PROGRAMME TO-MORROW James W. Horne, who directed Buster Keaton in “College,” which will be shown at the Grand Theatre to-
morrow, is one of Hollywood’s bestknown megaphone wielders. He has several successful pictures to his credit, including “The Hottentot,” one of Douglas Mac Lean’s hits; “ Kosher Kitty Kelly,” and “The Yankee Consul.” Horne’s particular flair for comedy
won him the assignment with the Keaton unit of the Joseph M. Schenck organisation. The cast of screen players who appear in support of Keaton in “College” includes Ann Cornwall, leading lady; Grant "Withers, Harold Goodwin, Snitz Edwards, James Mack, Buddy Mason and Flora Bramley. Scores of famous college athletes also have parts in the laugh feature, which marks a radical departure from anything Keaton ever has appeared in. Stephanie Deste, who appears as "Wanda, the Indicin girl, in "Rose Marie,” the big J. C. Williamson musical comedy coming to Auckland on December 21, is described by* one enthusiastic admirer as “the most alluring young lady' who has ever visited Australia.” It is generally admitted that Miss Deste has an attraction all her own, and it is difficult to determine in what particular attribute her power to draw really lies. When she created the part in the New York production, the “Times’’ critic described her as “one of the most subtly attractive women, who soon become public favourites. She has a charm all her own. and as Wanda she is the embodiment of all that is graceful and alluring. In the Totem dance scene she is superb. ’
