REFINEMENTS SOUGHT BY MARINE SUBURBS
BATHS FOR BIRKENHEAD NO BREAKWIND FOR BAYSWATER In response to a query from the Bayswater-Belmont Progressive Association, the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday intimated that it was not contemplating the erection of a breakwind or other protection along the western edge of the new reclamation at Bayswater. The engineer had reported that a satisfactory timber breakwind would cost £2OO. BATHS FOR BIRKENHEAD The Birkenhead Borough Council is also concerne<V*vith foreshore improvements, and is’ to be granted the responsibility of maintaining the road reserve fronting the jetties. The old reclamation area is to be offered to the council, for use as a public reserve, at an upset rental of £5 per year. A licence for a bath’s site is to be offered for 14 years, at £1 a year, provided baths are erected within three years from the issue of the licence. NORTH COTE’S WANT Northcote, tired of its exposed and windswept jetty, is appealing to the board for a new jetty. This request was referred to a committee.
