PLAY AND RECREATION
WOMEN’S AUXILIARY At the meeting held yesterday morning of the newly-formed Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Play Association, it was reported that Colonel Potter, of the Defence Department, had kindly granted the use of the Drill Hall for the last week in October for the holding of a fair. Mrs. Ferner, who was in the chair, impressed upon those present that only by the help and co-oiDeration of many people could such a huge affair be made a success.. A big sum was urgently needed for a building in which to hold the community club for children. The present structure had to be vacated at the end of the year, and new quarters must be found in the Freeman’s Bay area. Sufficient space was needed not only for the active games and for drill and gymnasium, but for rooms in which to teach the various handicrafts. There was a good attendance of representatives from other societies and from the co-operation and help suggested the fair promises to be a great success. Mr. L. S. Davis was appointed organiser. It was also announced that the local artists who had produced the play, “Ariadne or Business First?” had kindly consented to give a special performance in the concert chamber on August 19.
