LATE MR. T. BASSETT
Press Association. PALMERSTON N., Tuesday. One of the Dominion’s pioneers, Mr. Thomas Bassett, died at Palmerston ; North, at the age of 87 years. He was born on the voyage to New Zealand in 1840, being three weeks old when his parents landed at Welling - ; ton. He lived at Petone for over 25 j years. | The late Mr. Bassett took a proininj ent part in volunteer movements, and was attached to the cavalry. He came 1 to live at Palmerston North 14 years ago Mr. Bassett was the eldest of ✓ j family of 11. He is survived by Mr* 1 Bassett and six children.
