Stolen From Domain.—Several hundred young native trees recently planted in the Domain have been stolen. Trees For Auckland.—The Internal Affairs Committee has been asked to assist the Auckland City Council to obtain specimens of . protected New Zealand avifauna. Defective Lime Water.—For selling lime water which did not comply with the required standard, Garland, Ltd., were fined £ 3 in the Police Court today. _ Dogs Worrying Sheep.—lt is reported that much destruction is being caused among sheep in the Raetihi district through dogs. One farmer reports that he lost 40 hoggets. Hobson Bay’s Future. —The Auckland City Council last night declined to discuss the Harbour Board engineer’s report in connection with Hobson Bay. On the suggestion of the Mayor, Mr. Baildon, the question was referred to the Finance Committee. Workers’ Flats. —The City Council has been requested by the Civic League to acquire some of the slum areas, and erect a series, of fiats on them for working people. The rent of these flats, it was suggested, should not exceed one day’s wages. The council, however, is not considering any such proposals. Death Follows Accident. —Mr. Henry Carrington, of Cardwell Street, New Lvnn, who was knocked down by a lorry while delivering a sack of coal in Great North Road on July 14, died in the Auckland Hospital shortly before midnight yesterday. Mr. Carrington was a married man and a carrier by trade. New Plymouth Fire. —An eightroomed house near Inglewood, owned and occupied by Mr. Joseph Diggins, was destroyed by fire last night. The occupants were absent all day, and returned to find the house in flames. The cause of the fire is not explained. The house was insured for £BOO and the furniture for £l5O in the State Office. —Press Association. Stabling a “General Hack.”—This machine is a "general hack” for everybodv at the shop, said Robert Parsons when charged at the Magistrate’s Court this morning with leaving a motor-cycle and side-car in A ictoria Street for a longer period than permissible under the by-laws Then vou must not make a stable of the main street for it,” remarked Mr. Wyvern WPson S M-. who considered it a hindrance’ to traffic nnd assessed the offence with a fine of 5s and 10s posts.
