MUNICIPAL CONCERT

ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME Elgar's “March of the Mogul Emperors,” from his "Crown of India” suite, was performed by the Municipal Band at their Saturday night concert. Wet weather considerably interfered with the attendance on this occasion. Other contributions from the works of this composer included his “Saint d’ Amour” and the lilting Spanisn “Sevillana.” Beethoven’s "Egmont ’ overture was admirably played, likewise the melodious “Andante con Moto" movement from the Fifth Symphony. Massenet’s “Scenes Pittoresques” was another enjoyable contribution, especially the harmonious “Angelus” feature. “Finlandia,” the magnificent tone-poem of Sibelius, was the concluding number. Mr. Christopher' Smith who wielded the baton, again the band under admirable control. Mr. Hal C. McLennan played the flute solo, “Lieder Ohne Worte,” accompanied by the band. Miss Kate Christie sang “Sing, Break Into Song" (Mallinson). and “O Lovely Night.’ Mr. Stanley Pritchard’s baritone was admirably suited to the demands of Ailitsen's “The Lute Praver,” and Son of Mine” (Wallace). Mr. Leo Whittaker, at the piano, was a tower of strength.
