Rotary Has a New President

MR. W. J. HOLDSWORTH CLUB OFFICIALS APPOINTED Rotarian W. J. Holdsworth was elected president of the annual meeting of the Auckland Rotary Club today. The announcement that Rotarian W. Blomfield was unanimously re-elected Sergeant of Arms was the signal for sustained applause. “Bio” smilingly acknowledged the honour. THE NEW DIRECTORS The club elected other officers: VicePresident: George W. Hutchison; secretary, A. J. Hutchison; treasurer, H. C. McCoy. Directors: Past President W. Coltman R. L. Stewart, J. F. Shanly, A. B. Roberton, and H. T. Thomas. Chairman of Committee: G. F. Francis, musical section; G. M. Fowlds, programme; C. F. Bennett, fraternal; A. S.

Anstiss, reception; R. F. Ward, education; V. T. Drew, boys’ work; and J. P. O’Cononr, business methods. The secretary, Mr. Hutchison, commenting upon Rotarians’ activities during the year, declared that they had been responsible for raising a sum of over £9,000 for the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. It was proposed, he said, to hold a Boys’ Week in Auckland, but after careful consideration, it was decided to postpone this proposal. Mr. Hutchison also referred to the success of the recent reunion of Bluecoat Boys in Auckland, and the part which club members had paid to looking after their requirements. Assistance had also been given to the Boy Scouts’ Association, the Mental Hospital the Y.M.C.A., and other bodies during the year. The retiring president, Mr. Coltman, expressed his thanks for the support extended him during his long term of office. “I realised that I was following several extremely able presidents,” be said, “and I hope that 1 have occupied the position with credit to members and with dignity to myself.” (Applause.) The new president will be inducted at to-night’s annual dance and dinner.
