MAORI ARTS

MR. ARCHEY WELCOMED MINISTER’S FELICITATIONS (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. A hearty welcome as a newly-ap-pointed member of the Maori Arts and Crafts Board was given at the annual meeting this morning to Mr. Gilbert Archey, of Auckland. “Mr. Archey is a newcomer among us,” said the Hon. R. F. Bollard, “and he has taken the chair of Hr. P. H. Buck, on the latter’s acceptance of an important appointment in Honolulu. Though we will miss the assistance of Hr. Buck still I understand Mr. Archey comes among us with a splendid record of service in the preservation and fostering of Maori arts and crafts, it he does work as good as that of his predecessor I am sure the board and the country will benefit.”
