EX-SERVICE MEN
PROGRESS OF LEAGUE MEMBERSHIP OVER 250 An enthusiastic gathering of the members of the recently formed exService Men’s League was held last evening. It was reported that the membership already totalled over 250, and that inquiries, as to the reasons for the formation of the league and its objects, had been received from all over New Zealand, including Christchurch, Dunedin and Wellington. Mr. A. McCormick, who presided, stated that very good progress was being made with the scheme to solve the unemployment problem in connection with returned soldiers. The scheme, details of which were not yet available for publication, had been submitted to several prominent people, who were enthusiastic about it. It was believed that if the league could raise between £IOO and £SOO the scheme could be extended to provide permanent employment for every returned soldier out of work in New Zealand.', T. 8., SHELTERS Dr. Stuart-Moore, who was a major in the Medical Corps, addressed the gathering on the subject of the T.B. shelters in Auckland, and other information was supplied to the meeting to the effect that the men in the shelters were not receiving the attention they should, and that in any case the shelters were by no means satisfactory in themselves.
The meeting decided to take a deputation to the Auckland Patriotic Society to see if they could get a greater measure of comfort for the men in the shelters.
