THAMES BOROUGH COUNCIL
At the Thames Borough Council meeting last evening the building inspector reported that building permits granted for six months of this year were:—Business premises, £3,490; alterations, £217 10s; dwellings, £3,675; alterations, £1,572 10s; total, £8,955. The Hospital Board wrote stating the assessment for the borough this year would be £1,221. This was £7O more than last year. The council considered this reasonable, as costs were increasing. The council decided to recommend that August 1, Jubilee Day, be a whole holiday. The borough treasurer brought down the estimates for the current year. These showed that the increase in rates would be only 1 l-14d. over last year. This was considered good news and will be pleasing to the ratepayers. The engineer’s report on the borough quarry showed a better state of affairs during the past fortnight, as the total cost of 700 cubic yards had been reduced to 7s 10Jd a cubic yard. A vote of appreciation was passed to the engineer.
