TRIAL BY JURY
A POSSIBLE ENCROACHMENT MR. PARRY’S QUESTIONS (THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter .) f "WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The historic right of trial by jury is upheld by Mr. W. E. Parry (Auckland Central), who has given notice to ask the Minister for Justice: (1) Whether he is aware that, as the result of an Order-in-Couneii which came into operation on the first day of February, 1925, the right of trial by jury in civil actions has been seriously curtailed and in an important class of cases completely abolished? (2) Whether he is aware that the object and effect of the said Order-in-Council was and is to deprive injured workers of their right to trial bv jury when they claim damages independently of the Work-rs’ Compensation Act? (3) Whether he will submit legislation this session restoring the historic right to trial by jury and placing it beyond the possibility of interference, save by the representatives of the people in Parliament?
