DEVONPORT BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL In accordance with due process of law the Devonport Borough Council dissolved quietly last evening, those members in attendance being Messrs. J. Henderson, deputy-mayor, Aldridge, Hislop, Walker, Marks, Massey, Campbell and Napier. The trustees in the estate of the late Mr. A. A request from Devonport Yacht Club for some assistance in preparing the new hauling-up site was referred to the incoming council. The engineer will report on the work necessary. The concrete paving of Calliope Road is practically finished and is mostly opened for traffic. A draft agreement with the Waitemata Power Board for the supply of power for the pumping station was accepted, the chairman remarking that it was very satisfactory.
The usual Anzac services are being arranged by the council for Monday evening. An address will be delivered by the Rev. W. Lawson Marsh, M.A., C.F., Presbyterian minister. The pursuit of economy in the water department has led to an official inspection of house cisterns. Out of 959 inspected to date 287 were found leaky. A plumber is busy affecting repairs.
The Minister of Lands is to consider the request of the council to be allowed to put down and sell the trees now growing on Mount Victoria and to spend the money so collected in replanting the hill with ornamental trees.
