HOPU HOPU CAMP

GENERAL YOUNG f ) STANDARD GREATLY IMPROVED (From Our Own Correspondent.) NGARUAWAIIIA, To-day. Gratification was expressed by General Young, G.O.C. New Zealand Forces, when speaking to a SUN representative yesterday concerning the results of the 1927 Hopu Hopu Military Camp. He said the standard of training by the artillery and infantry was considerably above previous years and the morale of the trainees high. Now that the ground work had been done the general was convinced training would go forward rapidly. The North Auckland Regiment is now under canvas at, Hopu Hopu. This is the first occasion the Whangarei unit has been in training outside its own district, and it is intended to make it a permanent fixture. Casuals of various units are also in camp. General Young and Colonel Potter visited the camp yesterday, leaving that evening for Waiuku to inspect the Third Mounted Rifles.
