POWER BOARD MEETS

PROGRESS IN FRANKLIN INSTALLATION AT MERCER (From Our. Own Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, To-day. At the monthly meeting of the Franklin Electric Power Board, Mr. J. Dean presided. The report upon the operations of the board made by the engineer, Mr. T. R. Overton, and the secretary, Mr. S. P. Day, showed that the sutn of £2,000 was in hand ready to transfer to the interest reserve and £3,335 to the depreciation reserve. Several members expressed their satisfaction with the progress made since the board’s inception. A communication was received from the Railway Department intimating that the wiring of the Mercer railway station yards and cottages would be undertaken early in the new financial year. It was decided to thank the department for its action, and to enquire as to when authority would be given for the work to be proceeded with, as the board was in a position to erect its main line to Mercer immediately The chairman and the engineer were appointed to interview the Railway Department Divisional Superintendent, Mr. E. Casey, urging that electricity be installed in railway cottages at Pukekohe and Tuakau and other stations in the board’s areas. The variations in voltage of electric energy derived from Hora Hora was discussed at length, and it was agreed to request the Public Works Department to maintain a constant pressure. The secretary reported that over 100 signatures had been attached to a petition which had been in circulation in the Pukekawa and Onewhero districts for the board to operate in its area. The engineer advised that routes for new lines and extensions had been surveyed in the Kohe Kohe, Glenbrook, Helvetia and portion of the Mauku districts. A sub-committee was authorised to negotiate for the raising of the additional loan of £50,000 required by the board for its operations. The board resolved to cancel the £SOO bond of the Franklin County Council guaranteeing the performance of the Franklin Electric Supply and Trading Co., Ltd.’s obligations under the option agreement.
