CRASH IN THE DARK

WOMAN INJURED STRUCK BY PASSING MOTOR (From Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, To-day. While a half-ton lorry, with Mrs. Harvey, of Ruakaka, as a passenger, was proceeding along Otaika Road about 12 o’clock last evening, a tyre was punctured near the bridge, and the vehicle pulled to the side of the road for repairs to be effected. A car driven by Athol Fricker, motoring to Maungakaramea, came in sight and, with the idea of warning the driver of the lorry, Mrs. Harvey stepped out suddenly in its track, and was knocked down. The St. John ambulance conveyed her to the hospital where examination disclosed that she had sustained a fractured collarbone, broken ribs and some minor abrcsfcions. The driver of the lorry, Fred Johansen, was not involved in the smash. On turning after the mishap Fricker’s car went off the road and down the bank.
