WORK AT TAUMARUNUI (From Our Own Correspondent) TAUMARUNUI, To-day. Taumarunui being built on the junction of two rivers requires a coup| f of outlets to the adjoining farm-la*® and is therefore concerned in the pf°‘ vision of bridges. It has one fine bridPcalled the Victory Bridge, built on-.' a few years ago, and spanning Wanganui, and another, now in » very decrepit condition, which cross£ the Ongarue. The Public Won® Department, at Taumarunui is builflj ing alongside the latter a fine ne structure which is expected to finished by the end of the year, ***: which will cost about £6,000. A £00; deal of difficulty has been experiencewith the foundations as owing to nature of the river bottom there • much soakage into the coffer “ \ which the pump used up to the I P re \‘ r . can hardly cope with. The floods co sequent on recent rains have also m impeded the work.
