OLD RESIDENTS
TWO MORE DEATHS The death occurred at the age of 89 years of Mrs. Sarah Morrison, widow of the late Mr. John Morrison, w'ho as a mine-manager was well known in the Thames district. Mrs. Morrison was born and educated in the village of Ballywater, near Belfast, where her marriage to Mr. Morrison took place. Mrs. Morrison arrived in New Zealand by the ship Maori in company with her husband and two boys, landing on Christmas Day, 1868. Of twelve members of the family, Messrs Hugh. Robert, John William, Malcolm and Ritchie are farmers at Hikutaia, while the surviving daughters are Mrs. G. Davis, of Arapuni, and Mrs. S. McMahon, of Auckland. The death of another old resident of Auckland, Mrs. Eliza Thome, of Islington Street, Ponsonby, occurred yesterday. "Zrs. Thorne, who was 81 years of age, had been in New' Zealand for 54 years. She was a native of Worcestershire, England, and arrived in Auckland in company with her husband by the ship Dunedin. She was one of the foundation members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and took an active part in it until about eight years ago. Mr. Thorne predeceased his wife four years ago. Mrs. Thorne had 13 children, eight of whom survive her. They are Mrs. W. Cassin. Auckland; Sister Norbert. St. Mary’s Convent, Auckland; Mrs. M. Reardon, Auckland; Mrs. J. Hancock, Auckland; and Messrs A. T. H. Thorne, Auckland; Charles Thorne, Auckland; and W. Thorne, Onehunga.
