FOR WINTER COMFORT
HEATING SYSTEM IN LIBRARY COUNCIL BEGINS WORK The spacious rooms of the Public Library and Art Gallery in Wellesley Street are ideal retreats during: the summer months, but when the chill bite of winter comes that comfort is lost. Realising this fact, the Auckland City Council has commenced the installation of a hot water heating system throughout the whole building, a scheme which will be greatly appreciated by all who make use of the reading rooms and galleries. Apart from the question of comfort to those who like to spend a few quiet hours with the books, the heating of the building will be the means of preserving the valuable paintings in the Art Gallery. It has been found in the past that the change from heat to cold has had a bad effect on the pictures. When the system is installed and in working order, about the end of May, the temperature * will be kept at 65 degrees, that being the recognised temperature for the preservation of pictures.
