ELEGANT BRONZE GATE

FOR PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS CLEVER AUCKLAND CRAFTSMEN The Parliament buildings will soon be adorned by an Auckland-made bronze gate, massive and dignified, yet possessing a delicate and graceful balance such as make it a thing of beauty fit for the fine building which it will guard. The gate is on view at the Warren Engineerirg Co’s, workshop, where it was made. It is lift. Bin. high and 9ft. ljin. wide. On the crest above is a shield bearing the Royal monogram worked in relief, and running across the very top is an archway supported by bronze reeds, with crossbows in relief at intervals. On either side of the shield are the symbols of Maoriland, beautifully worked fern leaves, ih a triangular trellis design of polished bars. The doors below the cross reeds are indeed masterpieces of design and construction. Highly polished panels and bars cleverly placed in interlacements of squares form the inner sections of these. Embracing the whole of taese panels and work .n square designs are artis-tically-constructed borders.

At. first there was a doubt as to whether the gate could be made in New ealand, since nothing of its type or magnitude had been undertaken Previously. The finished work is a fit answer to that doubt. The cameraman provides a picture of it on the back page of THE SUN.
