WHAT OF THE BLUETROUSERS GANG?
BOY MEMBER IN COURT When the Rev. Jasper Calder says A boy is “certainly a very naughty boy,” he must be something out of the ordinary. This morning in the police court the city missioner was asked what he knew about a boy of 16J who was charged with stealing on various occasions £1 7s from his mother's gas meter. "He's had several chances,” Mr Calder said. “He’s been put on his honour. He’s a thief and a very bad liar, and on one occasion he assaulted his fiiother. “She bought him long trousers with the hope of making something of a man of’ him, but he prefers this abominable garb (the big boy in navy blue shorts grinned) which is the official badge of the gang to which he belongs. The influence of the gang has got him down. He is certainly a very naughty boy.” For the next three years the boy who prefers short trousers will have few opportunities for being a naughty boy, for the magistrate, Mr. McKean, sent him to the Borstal Institute for that time.
