SETTING A RECORD.

MISS J. BEALE, STRATFORD. Skis, Motors, Flies, All In A Day, i, tK-FTEdncifeA CHATEAU TO PALMERSTON NORTH. Press Association —Copyright. The Chateau, September 1. Although conditions wore much better than for more than a week, and with the summit of Ruapehu clear for the first time during the winter sports, an exceedingly cold and strong wind made it impossible to continue the inter-Do-minion ski contest at Tongariro National Park to-day. The Ruapehu Ski Club’s men’s and women’s slalom championships were held, however, on a short slope sheltered from the wind. Indications are for a spell of fine weather. There Is still time to complete the inter-Dominion event as the Australians will not leave until Thursday. Some of the visitors may stay longer, but it is stated definitely that they will not compete at Mount Cook. Some of the New Zealand team are staying on at personal inconvenience. Miss J. Beale, Stratford, New Zealand representative, ski-ied from Salt i Hut to-day, motored to Taumarunui, and caught an aeroplane for Palmerston North to fulfil an engagement there tonight. She will return early to-morrow morning. B. McMillan Wins. The results are: — Women’s slalom; Miss P. Murphy (Kaponga), 1m 32 2-ss, for two descents of the course, 1; Mrs. T. W.
