Bridge Gets Fruity Flavour.

Sydney is experimenting with a new bridge system that has a fully) flavour.

Its inventor is Mr Henry Summers, or Harrogate, England, who. appaently fed up with the variety of bridge systems, has one of his own called the “Fruit" Convention. It goes like this: With 2J quick tricks call 1 apple. With 3 quick tricks call 1 plum. With 4 quick tricks 1 pear. / With more than 4 quick tricks call 1 peach.

Only the bid of “peach” is forcing* and if partner dots not hold one and a half quick tricks, his answer is a “lemon.” After the first round, when the information has been duly exchanged, the bidding takes the normal course.
