STORM DAMAGE.
Power Fails In Stratford On Saturday. TOWN IN DARKNESS. For three-quarters of an hour oru Saturday, between 5 p.m. and 5.45 p.m., the central and (northern parts of the, Stratford borough were plunged into darkness. The fault was caused when two high-tension wires at the intersection of Regan and Miranda Streets, were snapped by a heavy burst of wind. This power failure delayed the printing of The Post for nearly an hour .
Interruptions in telephone and pow. er service were experienced, but in all cases these were rectified within a very short time. A tree was blown down in Victoria Park and left a gap in the shelteil belt. No other damage in Central Taranaki was reported, although rain was laiirly heavy throughout Saturday and there were heavy gusts of wind at intervals.
The breaking of the wires placed the Broadway area in darkness, and to enable replacement power had to be cut off from north Stratford. The couth was not affected. No damage was discovered in the Taranaki Power Board's district beyond minor interruptions to service lines which were quickly attended to. There were a number of small breaks in the telephone lines, most l of them o* East Road. The majority' were attended to yesterday and any' remaining complaints will be rectified to-day.
No property damage was reported in either Stratford borough or county The fall of the tree did no damage, and weather effects have not cost the Stratford Borough Council any expenditure in road or property repair this winter. The rain was not heavy enough to affect rivers in the county' district .
