Librarian’s Slory of Late King’s Habit. ■ BERNARD SHAW’S TRIBUTE. press Association —Copyright. London. Jan. 23. Mr. Owen F. Morshead, librarian at Windsor Castle, in a broadcast to the schools sa.d King George used sometimes to tell the children when they came to Sandringham House tor a special prize how, when he was a boy, his grandmother, Queen victoria, gave him a B.ble. She advised him to read a chapter every night. "1 Have aiways done it wherever 1 have b.en, except during tnat bad illness. I tould not tnen. Wow you do as you like, Lut if you make that a rule of life 1 do not think you willregret it when >au come to my age, and you have a long way to go.” Then he gave a great boyish laugh. Mr. Morsnead told of King George’s Lst appearance outdoors. When he rode his little fat white pony, Jock, through the sunny woodlands and dismounted at the garden gates close to the little church where he is now lying, Jock rubbed his head against his master for the carrots which he knew were coming. he mef the King there, said Mr. Morshead. He had brought for the King an original hand-written document from which as. a girl Queen Victoria had read her speech to the i-nvy Council on the morrow of the death of William IV, The manuscript had strayed into private hands and the owner had asked Mr. morshead to oliei it to His Majesty. “As we walked to the house,” Mr. Morshead said, “His Majesty told me of the insupportable emotion with which he himself confronted the Privy Council, how he had been up all night long s id could hardly snatch the time to jot < own notes, and despaired in grief of being able to give utterance to his thoughts.” Mr. Morshead added that only a week ago Mr. Bernard Shaw before sailing for the West Indies said King George was one of the finest broadcasters. His sincere humility and whole attitude made everyone say. “A man; God bless him.”
