WORLD SHIPPING CONFERENCE

LAYING UP OF SURPLUS TONNAGE Press Association —Conyrisrht. London, Nov. 10. A world shipping conference will be held at London shortly to work out plans for the laying up and possibly restriction of tonnage, says a correspondent of the Financial News. The writer says the Chamber of Shipping has sounded the views of all maritime'nations on the prospects of the conference. Although a full report on the views of the United States will not be received until next week, reactions elsewhere have been surprisingly favourable. While there is no chance whatever of the complete abolition of subsidies, the chances of some reasonable arrangement forscrapping or laying up surplus tonnage is said to be very much brighter than a few months ago.
