WINE AS A PROTECTION

AGAINST TYPHOID GERMS Press Association —Copyright. , Paris, Jan. 2. Wine is a powerful protection against typhoid germs, says Doctor Andre Kling, Director of the Paris Municipal Laboratory, in an article in the Revue dcs Boissons (Drinks Review). He took bacilli from the polluted waters of the Seine and added ordinary red and white wines, which in ten minutes destroyed the microbes' virulent powers and then killed them outright. Even when diluted with the same quantity of pure water wine maintains its germ destroying' propertied, for which purpose new wines are preferable to old. Dr. Kling confirms Pasteur's opinion that wine in moderation is humanity's healthiest beverage.
