NEW YORK ADMINISTRATION

NEW MAYOR IN OFFICE Press Association—Copyright New York, Jan. 1. The new city administration of the mayor, Mr. Fiorello Laguardia, was inducted into office to-day and immediately started to function despite the holiday. The usual elaborate "inauguration ceremonies were curtailed at Mr. Laguardia's request in consideration of the serious financial difficulties facing New York. The new police commissioner, General John O'Ryan, with the new Mayor addressed 2000 police inspectors, captains and lieutenants and ordered a drive on crime. They issued an ultimatum to the police force to "either eliminate racketeers or get out yourselves."
