The quick eye of the driver of a passenger train detected a sleeper affixed to the line at the beginning of a precipitous 170 feet causeway near Oporto and brought the train to a standstill with the barest margin of space. A search located a gang of bandits hiding in a ravine. They confessed they were waiting for the train to crash into the gorge so that they could rob the victims.
