Competition Winner To boost iho sale of honorary mem. bciv tickets, and lo create interest! in the club' the Stratford Amateur Athletic Club held a competition, which was most successful, for the disposal of the tickets. Members entered the competition keenly and in the two weeks available secured many new members, but it, was a lady member who topped the list, for Mrs. S. Lay sold 36 tickets. Prizo Winners Announced The prizes in connection with tile subscription fund in aid of the Stratford Municipal Band were decided la.-t night. M. and T. Smith. Strat_ ford, won the first prize with voucher > k 8610. C. F. Faulkner, Stratford, With voucher No. 5625 won the second prize and Mrs. A. Martin, Huiroa, voucher No. 3001, the third prize. The committee desires to thank all those who assisted to make the effort a financial success. Shortage of Sheep "Our trouble is that we cannot get enough sheep to stock these areas," said the president (Mr. T. T. Murray) of the Stratford Sub-provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union at this afternoon's monthly meeting, referring to ragwort infested farms. "There is plenty of grazing available," he said, but we cannot get nearly enough sheep." Liquor ACter Hours Charges. A police raid at Whangamonuma recently will have its sequel at the Stratford Magistrate's Court on Monday when several charges under the Licensing Act will be preferred. There are two charges of being alleg. cdly on premises after hours, and three charges against the licensee, involving -alleged opening for the sale of liquor, alleged exposing for sale and alleged sale after hours. Clay Bird Challenge The Stratford Gun Club has received a challenge from a Taumaruniii — King Country team of shooters and a clay bird contest will be held on the club's grounds at Messrs. Nelson and Green's property at an early date. A team of from i'ive to eight shooters will represent the challengers. The match will really resolve into a King Country—Tarnnaki contest, as the Taumarunui Gun Club will draw on surrounding districts. It is the first, time such a shoot, has been arranged so that considerable interest, is being evinced in the event. Court Business The Stratford Magistrate's Court 'will be occupied at the fortnightly sitting on Monday, in addition to tbe usual civil list, with several charges brought under the Motor Regulations and the Licensing Act. Two motorists will be charged with driving without licenses and another with allegedly attempting to drive over a railway crossing while it was not clear. Arising out of a police raid at Whanga., several charges will b2 preferred under the Licensing Act. There are two defended civil claims and two maintenance cases.
