To-day there was a last-minute rush of applicants for the building subsidy. Included was an application for a job worth £25,000 for winter show purposes and another worth £50,000 for a purpose not disclosed. Applications to-day numbered 272 and yesterday 241 applications were mads. The value represented was £169,880, with a wages cost of £63,335. The total at Christchurch to date is 1242 applications valued at £718,416, witli a wages cost of £252.262. Approvals number 460 and refusals 35.
