It is officially stated that the Japanese Government had not yet planned a programme view of the expiry of the Washington and London naval treaties. The mandated islands have not been fortified and there is no intention to fortify them.

It is understood that Mr. S. M. Bruce, Australian Minister, at the first favourable opportunity will convert £15,000,000 of Australian 6 per cents, on terms representing a great saving to Australia. The rise in wool and the eulogistic comment on the improved general situation in Australia have paved the way for the conversion.

Mrs. Hinkler, mother of the dead aviator Bert Hinkler, states that after full consideration of the circumstances the widow has decided to allow Hinkler's body to remain in Italy in view of the sulendid memorial erected there.
